Gilbertsville Gets a Speed Tracker!

Speeding in Gilbertsville has been a persistent issue for as long as I've lived here, and a way to increase drivers' awareness of their speed has been one of the most often-heard requests at VIS meetings.

Well, finally we're getting a speed tracker! Nancy Callahan has worked doggedly for months to make this happen for Gilbertsville.

She writes, "The Village Improvement Society has been working closely with the Village of Gilbertsville for the past several months applying for a permit from the Department of Transportation to install a radar speed tracker in the village. Permission has been granted and a permit issued to the village. VIS will donate half the cost of purchasing this unit that has the ability to be moved to different locations throughout the village. The first locations will be on route 51 coming into the village from both directions. There is already some interest in purchasing additional units." Way to go, Nancy!

The VIS will donate $1600 of the $3200 total cost to the Village of Gilbertsville for purchase of the speed tracker.
